The Loony Tunes Show Première

The new 'Loony Tunes' show premièred on US television screens earlier this week to mixed reviews.

I have to say that judging by the sneak peek material posted online I was expecting this to be utter garbage. I've just watched the first episode and to be honest it wasn't as bad as I was expecting, but it was still pretty terrible.

My main gripe with the show, that I couldn't get away from, was with the sitcom style set up of the sketches. It became so far removed from the original 'Loony Tunes' format they could have done the same jokes without Bugs and Daffy. The quality of voice acting was irritatingly off-key, mimicking the originals but not well enough for it to pass unnoticed, which again made me think why couldn't this show just have had different characters. The 'Merrie Melodies' section was simply awful. I wouldn't consider myself a 'Loony Tunes' purist, simply complaining that it doesn't conform to the standard of the classic episodes. I just feel that this show might as well have been something completely fresh and new. When you simply paste well know characters into a new format it's bound to fail, having said that its still not the worst 'Loony Tunes' rehash that's been churned out over the years.

Despite its many faults I have to admit, there were moments that made me laugh out loud and some excellent bits of animation. From what I've read on-line a lot of people clearly like it, so for now I'll give it the benefit of the doubt and I'll watch a few more episodes to see if it improves.

That's all folks!
