This stunning music video for Japanese pop songstress Cuushe, and her track 'Airy Me', is the product of a graduate assignment completed by Japanese artist Yoko Kuno whilst studying at university. It took almost 2 years & 3000 individual hand-drawn illustrations, all done by Yoko Kuno herself, but now 'Airy Me' is finally ready for all to see.

Animography: Franchise Animated

'Franchise Animated' is a collaborative animated typeface created by a single type designer and 110 animators. Each animator was assigned a glyph and restricted to using only 4 colours and 25 frames in a 500×600 After Effects project. What they animated was left entirely up to them, and the diversity of the contributions is staggering.

The incredible list of animators can be seen here. I'm sure a lot of the names will be familiar to regular visitors of the Animated Review.

This poignant tale, about a boxer at odds with the world's expectations of him, is beautifully told with no dialogue. We're looking forward to seeing what Joe does next.

David Maingault: Tacky, Sticky & Glutinous

David Maingault is amazing! If you weren't already impressed by his animated tribute to Tim Burton or his short film 'The Pink Lady,' his EMCA graduation film 'Tacky, Sticky & Glutinous' will blow your socks off!!

'The Missing Scarf', which beautifully blends CGI with bold motion graphics, is only just starting it's festival run now. We'll have to wait until later this year to see the film in full.

Following on from the nude leapfrogging and the sexy nakedness of 'Walks And Runs' we've already posted on AR, he's back with an animated strip tease for a Dutch furniture designer. The actual advert can't be posted online just yet, so whilst we wait Felix has posted some looping re-edits for us to enjoy.

Josiah Haworth, Joon Shik Song & Joon Soo Song: Brain Divided

Cartoon Brew have opened their 4th annual Student Animation Festival with this CG short titled 'Brain Divided', created by Ringling students Josiah Haworth, Joon Shik Song & Joon Soo Song.

The short tells the story of a man struggling to rationalise the two battling sides of his conscience. The lustful and emotional side of his brain competes with the sensible and intellectual side for control whilst on a date. The date goes disastrously until both sides start working together.

We're not particularly fond of the CG aesthetic, but it has been applied flawlessly in telling a humorous well thought out narrative.

Conor Finnegan: Fear Of Flying

We posted the trailer for Conor Finnegan's 'Fear Of Flying' short this time last year. After a year on the festival circuit and numerous awards, this gorgeous short (which is mostly puppetry with some 2D animation tweaks) it is finally online for us all to enjoy!

Luke Sanders completed this personal project, inspired by his travels through Indonesia, in his spare time working late into the night and fueled by numerous cups of coffee! Weird right!?

The Retro Inc. Muppets Prints

London based The Retro Inc. create minimalistic prints inspired by the pop culture character they grew up with.

The characters in the books, television shows and movies that we loved as children stay with us for the rest of our lives, we even have a desire to share the characters we loved with our own children. Because of the prints subject matter and their simplistic retro look they'd look equally at home in a child's bedroom or hanging in your living room.

Here we have a small selection of 'The Muppets Show' posters available, but if you check out their Society6 store you'll also find characters from 'Sesame Street' and 'Winnie The Pooh' too.

The Boxtrolls Teaser Trailer

Laika is following up 'Coraline' and 'ParaNorman' with a CG/stop-motion hybrid effort called 'The Boxtrolls'. Based on Alan Snow’s fantasy adventure novel 'Here Be Monsters' and directed by Anthony Stacchi and Graham Annable.

“The Boxtrolls is a comedic fable that unfolds in Cheesebridge, a posh Victorian-era town obsessed with wealth, class and the stinkiest of fine cheeses. Beneath its charming cobblestone streets dwell the Boxtrolls, foul monsters who crawl out of the sewers at night and steal what the townspeople hold most dear: their children and their cheeses. At least that’s the legend residents have always believed. In truth, the Boxtrolls are an underground cavern-dwelling community of quirky and lovable oddballs who wear recycled cardboard boxes the way turtles wear their shells. The Boxtrolls have raised an orphaned human boy since infancy as one of their dumpster-diving and mechanical junk-collecting own. When the Boxtrolls are targeted by a villainous pest exterminator who is bent on eradicating them as his ticket to Cheesebridge society, the kind-hearted band of tinkerers must turn to their adopted charge and an adventurous rich girl to bridge two worlds amidst the winds of change – and cheese.”
