Stromae - Carmen

Director Sylvain Chomet ('Belleville Rendez-Vous', 'The Illusionist' and that memorable Simpsons couch gag) has directed an animated music video for Belgian hip hop artist Stromae (aka Paul Van Haver.)

Accompanying the track 'Carmen', taken from Stromae's album 'Racine Carrée', the narrative draws from Georges Bizet's opera of the same name, whilst also criticising the disposable culture imposed by the fleeting nature of social media.

Visually the video is reminiscent of Chomet's 1997 short 'The Old Lady And The Pigeon', in which a starving gendarme disguises himself and a giant pigeon to trick an old lady into feeding him. The massive birds featured are both equally terrifying and comical.
